Dan DiMaio - Marketing and Advertising

DanD-Photo-Web

Dan started life on two wheels at the early age of three. Since then, it's been a life of two wheeled adventures. Going through multiple mini bikes, he raced BMX for four years before returning to the motorcycle world.

After 12 years as a successful Real Estate agent, Dan reconnected with his true passion in life, motorcycles. Working in the Washington area’s premier motorcycle dealership for 6 years, he discovered the world of cross country endurance racing and  still competes on a regular basis in the senior class…stop laughing.

Now he begins a new chapter in his life, with Adventure Motorcycle Magazine and hopes to meet as many adventure riders, on the trail, road or in a different country as possible.

Nicole Espinosa - Managing Editor

Nicole's Homepage

Nicole’s thirst for adventure was born camping on Whidbey Island, WA beaches for weeks at a time as a young child with her family. But, it was the gleam in her Uncle Mike’s eye as he rolled into her driveway astride his Harley on a US tour when she was five that lit the fire for connecting motorcycles, adventure and passion.

Since then, Nicole learned to ride a dual sport, Honda NX 250, when she needed a second mode of transportation after her Alfa Romeo Spider spent more time in the shop than on the road. After a brief sabbatical to raise a family, Nicole jumped right on solo adventure riding around the US on her modified Suzuki DRZ400S to encourage her kids to live life to its fullest.

Today, you can find Nicole designing dual sport accessories for her business Rugged Rider and planning SidecarSafari, the first ever around the world family adventure!

Zac Kurylyc - Field Reporter
Zac Kurylyk

Zac Kurylyk, hailing from Canada, is a true renaissance man. Or, maybe just a jack of all trades. Besides holding down layout and story editing duties and writing for Adventure Motorcycle, he does freelance writing for other publications and works a day job as well. Despite rumors that he was raised by wolves, he actually hails from Prince Edward Island, but is not related to Anne of Green Gables.

At the moment, he's living in Saint John, New Brunswick. He currently rides a Suzuki DR650, after stints with a Lifan, a couple Kawasaki KZs, a couple Honda Silverwings, and a Yamaha XS650 that he still misses (although his aim is improving). His retirement plan involves living in a van, down by the river, but his wife won't let him. In his scarce spare time he likes to hunt, fish, camp, and play ice hockey.

Sam Manicom - Contributing Editor

Sam Manicom

Sam's Homepage

Sam Manicom was born in the Belgian Congo. His parents worked and lived through the two rebellions that preceded the change of this West African country's name to Zaire. They brought the family home to England when he was ten years old.

His first trip was a backpacking seat of the pants voyage of discovery across Europe, India and Australia, which often saw him down to his last $10. On arrival in Australia, no one asked him if he had any money and a return ticket. He had neither. What was needed, he earned along the way and this he says was a great learning experience.

Wanting to do something completely different he learned to ride a motorcycle and 3 months later set off to ride the length of Africa. This one-year trip turned into an eight-year, 200,000 mile epic across 55 countries around the world.

Sam has been writing for travel and motorcycle magazines in the USA, Canada and the UK since 1996. He is the author of four adventure motorcycle travel books – ‘Into Africa’, ‘Under Asian Skies’, ‘Distant Suns’ and now, ‘Tortillas to Totems’.

Why write? Well, to share the fun and to encourage others to get out on two wheels and enjoy this amazing world of ours.

Carl Parker - Publisher

Carl Parker

Carl's Homepage

Crazy” Carl Parker started riding later in life when a friend of his handed over a non-starting Honda VF750C Magna. "Discovering motorcycles was like having a person stick a sign in the road which said, "Life, this way." Ever since then it's been two wheels and no looking back. Having directed, recorded and edited his first feature length film “The Return – Riding Western China”, he came away from five amazing years of Motographing Western China with two important lessons. First, the rider makes the ride - not the other way around. Second, sharing your journey with others expands not only your personal horizons, but of those around you as well. Having spent several years long distance solo riding on 150cc bikes through some very harsh conditions, he firmly believes people can set and achieve goals.  "The loftier your goals, the more love, enthusiasm and encouragement you'll get from the people around you." Carl’s current and future projects focus on encouraging adventurers to produce something from their experiences because, "If life is not art, what is?"
Lois Pryce - Regular Columnist

Lois Pryce

Lois's Homepage

Weary of the daily grind in jargon-infested London media-land, Lois Pryce jacked in her job at the BBC to ride from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego astride her Yamaha XT225. Upon her return she wrote the book of this trip, Lois on the Loose, which was published in the U.S. and the U.K., as well as being translated into German and Dutch. Itchy wheels struck again and it wasn’t long before she was poring over maps of Africa, plotting another adventure.

In October 2006 she set off on a Yamaha TTR250 to ride from London to Cape Town, crossing the Sahara through Algeria and Niger and continuing down the west coast through the Congo and Angola to South Africa. The tale of this trip is captured in her book Red Tape and White Knuckles. Lois lives on a Dutch barge in London with her husband, fellow motorcycle adventurer Austin Vince.

Bret Tkacs - Skills and Products Specialist
BTkacs-Photo-Web

Bret Tkacs started riding on a ‘75 Kawasaki KZ400 in an apple orchard where his brother gave him a brief overview of the controls and sent him on his way. That day in the thick cold fog of early winter is when his life changed forever. Shortly after this first ride he took a riding course starting him on a lifelong quest for as much knowledge on riding as he could find.

Now one of the top motorcycle trainers in the nation, he and his crew from Puget Sound Safety – Off Road (PSSOR) train civilians, law enforcement and the U.S. Military in the Pacific Northwest and across the United States.  The school he co-founded now trains nearly 8,000 riders per year on the street and in the dirt.

His current bikes include the BMW F800GS and a Husqvarna TE310 (dual-sport), his passion and knowledge for adventure riding is evident in his writings and teachings.  He currently resides in Washington State and says the easy access to the roads/trails trails along the Pacific Ocean from Alaska to Mexico means he has no plans to move anytime soon.
